In this text Rushdie is talking about the unnecessariness of reality tv shows. In these shows competitors are doing everything to win the big price. Especially in “Big Brother” and “Survivor” people are fighting each other, kissing each other etc. These are all for taking attention of people who are watching them. As Rushdie states, people are getting more addicted on these reality things; as time passes, they want to see more and more about these things. If they see a murder in newspaper, the other day they want to see a massacre. These kind of things are washing people’s brains and making them asocial and insensitive individuals.

Nowadays there are lots of TV shows which has no aim like giving people some ideologies or teaching something. Only thing they give is helping people to kill their time for without any reason. So, why do people watch these stupid TV shows? Because they are willing to find something from their own life. They think that these things are really happening in real life. On the other hand these TV shows are manipulating people. Therefore, people are getting addicted to television. Especially people who don’t have job, don’t go to work or don’t go to school, are sitting in front of television and watching them from morning to evening. These circumstances may even cause family problems etc.

In this story there is a boy who is a teenage boy at that time (the time that story written) in my opinion. He has a father who is hardworker but does not like his job. One day he had a heart-attack and died. And the boy thinks that it is his fault. The important part is the key which his father put his pocket for his family. I think that key represents the responsibility. Father said that he needed to find the key and then he found it. He is try to say that he did what he said even he was in a fight with death. It was a message to his son. A message that wants to say “look my son, I work hard whole my life, i tried to do everything that I need to do. And now I said you that I was gonna find the key, and i found it when I was struggling with death”.

İn today’s world piracy is a common way of distrabuting mp3s to the music sector. Some people do it unconsciencely, some knowingly. But it both cases they are commiting a crime. Obviously there is no difference to steal a mp3 CD from shop or stealing from internet by downloading. These circumstances are more common in young adults’ world because they do not even know that is it legal or illegal. Actually, these problems could easily be solved if governments make strict rules and heavy punishments.
